Devon's gate

On my last visit to 60goingon16 before I went away for the weekend, I was treated to D's view across the gate in her Devon lane. A quick look around on my return brought a sense of deja vu, with dovegreyreader's wander down her lane ending at a gate. Then I realised that almost any wander along a Devon lane must involve a gate; our hedges are so high that, without a gate to lean on, we would see nothing but hedgerows....

....and pretty though they are the views over them are stunning. Here 's the view over the gate at the top of the hill on my morning walk.As D says, "In Devon, gates are for ...."

  2. Hey, what is with all you Devon Bloggers and your gates? Log on to a Devon Blog these days and there's another one!

Not that I'm complaining, of course. There's nothing like a stroll down a West Country lane - albeit vicariously.

But you don't have a monopoly, you know - I'm going to lean my camera on a Constable Country Gate or two, I think. (Well, maybe when this torrential rain eases up a bit . . .)

(PS - I removed my previous comment not because I'd said something rude but because it was more than usually full of typos!)

  3. I look forward to seeing the Mersea gates, J. Do they all look out over the sea or the mud?

Re the typos - don't you wish blogger would allow you to correct comments? I'm always torn between appearing rude if I delete a comment with a glaring mistake and appearing stupid if I leave it. It couldn't be too difficult for those technical experts to sort, surely?

  4. I know - that 'this post has been removed by the author' looks so suspect - as if one had posted an intemperate rant and then thought better of it!

  5. I don't think we'll be doing much looking over Devon gates today, M. More staying indoors, battening down the hatches.

Lovely views! Bet it doesn't look like that today though . . .

  6. Like you, D, I've resorted to putting the heating on!

  7. We put the heating back on too. Awful day. Nice photos. Shall have to find a gate or two of my own.

  8. Heating on over here in the far east as well.

Cath - it seems to be absolutely obligatory for all Devon bloggers to upload a photo of a Devon gate this week, so hurry up or you might be expelled!! ;-)
