A piercing question

I have an embarrassing admission to make: I have never worn earrings. Having had rather troublesome ears since early childhood, involving me in lots of unpleasant treatments and several operations, I would never willingly undergo any procedure that would inflict unnecessary pain upon the tender lobes.

But........ I've just received a really pretty ruby pendant........
and I would love to buy some earrings to match. What do you think?

  1. Beautiful necklace. Wear it in good health and happiness.

Have you investigated clip-on earrings? I used them exclusively until at age 60, I decided to have my ears pierced to accommodate some earrings I absolutely loved.

  2. I say go for it! Piercing can be done very quickly now, not like when we were kids. With no disrespect to your friend erp, I found clip-on earings to be painful like someone was pinching my lobes.

  3. Oh go on - have them pierced - just make sure you get them numbed first as I had mine done without, and it killed.

  4. Well, I have been toying with the same question for some years and still can't make up my mind. I sort of want to say 'If you do I will', but fear that I might not keep my word! What has the MM to say about it I wonder.

  5. Well, that all sounds like positive encouragement to go ahead. Now all I need is a little courage.
(Crinny, the MM thinks any kind of body piercing is barbaric but I'm not sure that he would notice!)

  6. Yes, I remember his stance from when Millie's Mum wanted her ears pierced - that was why I asked! I bet he does notice.

  7. The necklace is pretty so I can see why you are tempted. I had my ears pierced by a doctor, aiming for best results, but really always had trouble with the piercings and they closed up after several years so now I can't wear pierced earrings.
Most folks don't have that problem but it wasn't a good experience for me.

  8. Ah go on, as Mrs Doyle might have said, M. I'll come and hold your hand if you like and give you a comforting homeopathic remedy to speed up the healing process.

I've always loved earrings and probably have far too many, from all over the world, and each pair tells a story. I found clip-on earrings quite uncomfortable so had my ears pierced when I was in my twenties and never had any problems. Later on I thought about having a second set of ear piercings done but the Dear Daughter said that this was not a good look on a woman of a certain age, which put paid to that idea.

  9. I have mine pierced, but never wear earrings...haven't done for about five years. Not sure why I suddenly took against them, and I have some really nice pairs as well.
I had mine done without numbing and didn't really notice much!

  10. Do it! I have piercings all over (not in a freaky kind of way!) After the initial sting and with proper after care, its really not a big deal. Just go to a reputable place, make sure they use clean equipment and treat yourself to some coffee and cake after. (Any excuse for coffee and cake)

  11. It's looking like the yeas have it! Thank you for your encouragement and for the honest negative points. I'm tempted by the coffee and cake with, perhaps, a little homeopathic healing remedy. I'll let you know when it's done.

  12. Wow - really? Do you want to get them done while you are here? I'll look into finding someone local. Otherwise there is always the place in Barnstaple that I had mine done in (it was good 15 years ago).

Will have warm salty water at the ready!

  13. Millie's Mum - I'll have it done if you hold my hand!

  14. Hoozah! Now you will have the pleasure of choosing your earrings...some pretty little sruby studs if someone is feeling generous?

  15. Colleen - I haven't done the deed yet but I'm sure my daughter (Millie's Mum) will push me into it now.
