One week old

Here she is ... one week old today, gorgeous from head to toe and adored by all!
Just back from a few days of doting on this lovely little one. I was rather surprised the first time I witnessed the modern method of burping baby and I'm not sure that Charlotte Emily was terribly impressed. But it works amazingly well!
Ready for grandparents to admire.

  1. She is adorable

... and that method of burping was around since my oldest was born 50+ years ago. The pictured choke hold looks a little extreme. The idea is to tilt the baby's head forward while holding her head from wobbling by resting her chin on your thumb and your other hand supporting her back. A little more practice and everyone will be more comfortable with it.

Although burping while holding the baby on one's shoulder is a lot more fun for the burper and I think the burpee too, but then what do I know, not being an expert in early childhood development.

A long and happy life to the little charmer.

  2. A good bout of strangulation helps quieten those pesky cries very effecively, I've found... Yes, I think I'm getting the hang of this fatherhood lark.

What you can't see in the picture is the way the baby's body is moved round in circles while her head is held up!

  6. Lovely pictures. I can also see now how accurate Brit's portrait of you is.

  7. D, you can imagine how hard it was for us to come home!

My son made that cartoon of me when he was away at university. It sums up his memories of his crossword, pig and Aga-loving mother! The one of his dad shows him out training for the London marathon, accompanied by our dog and totally absorbed in a maths book. Beware what images your children take with them!

  8. Beautiful!
I hope Charlotte inherits your hair gene M. Still not a gray hear in sight I see!! Both you and the MM look extremely well and very content.

  9. I'm so happy you posted pictures of Miss Charlotte Emily, and of you and your fella! I loved seeing you. She is a little doll - think of being in the world just a week. You know what, I hardly ever had to burp my babies. I wouldn't go for the new way at all. :<)

  10. Crinny,
Charlotte really is beautiful and that is a really unbiased opinion!

    Nan,
I was afraid to try the burping method but Daddy is great at it and the baby seems to enjoy the experience. It is certainly very effective.

  11. Oh these photos are lovely and many congratulations. I was told a week or so ago that I am to be a grandmother for the first time and I am so thrilled and delighted. So next year I hope to be holding a beautiful baby too!

Congratulations to you, too. I have been wondering if you might be joining the Grandma Club soon - there is nothing quite like it.

  13. Karin, there is nothing in the world like it! I hope your kids oblige soon.

I am now looking for a pattern to knit something for the baby with the pink yarn you sent me.
