Would we miss Belgium?

That's the question posed in the Telegraph's editorial today. Never mind the politics, what about the chocolate?

Here are some reminders of our holiday in Bruges in April last year to celebrate my retirement.

The city is so small that we could walk around it in no time but we couldn't resist a tour in a horse drawn carriage.

(We are not the passengers in this particular carriage!)

Canals are another way of getting around.

Bruges lace has been famous for centuries.

The architecture is amazing

and the beer is in a class of its own.

I think we would like to keep Belgium!

  1. Thank you for the Bruges recollections and photos Maureen. Brought back happy memories of the last time I was there with my brother, his wife and a family friend a few years ago. We had a fabulous time and, on our penultimate day, the friend and I took a train to Ghent - a city that is an unexpected delight.

Would happily return again and again - and not just for the chocolate, beer and French fries with mayonnaise. Best not comsumed simultaneously, of course.

  2. I think it is the ideal location for adult family and friends to holiday - so much to see, a great variety of restaurants and such friendly people.

  3. Honeymooned in Bruges, which is to die for.

monix, if I may be permitted a curmudgeon moment, I hope before I die I will read at least one travel article that reports that someplace or other is easy to get to, has beautiful architecture and terrific food, but sadly, really unfriendly people!
