RAF museum

I am bringing this post from August 2007 back to the fore today, the day of Duck's funeral. I trust his spirit is flying free.

I saw this North American P-51D Mustang 'Donald Duck aircraft from WWII in the RAF Museum in London, last week. These pictures are for you, Duck.

  1. Thanks Monix! It's a double treat: a fine picture of cousin Donald plus a P 51 Mustang. I'm a fan of combat planes of any era.

On my recent trip to Washington DC to visit my brother, we visited the new annex to the National Air & Space Museum, the Udvar-Hazy Center. I saw the Concorde, the Enola Gay, the SR-71 Blackbird among other famous planes. It's an amazing place.

  2. "North American?" We'd never refer to a "European Spitfire."

  3. Boy, David, are you ever touchy. It's the name of the company that built it.

You guys just won't give the Mexicans credit for anything, will you?

  4. Sorry, David, I just copied the museum's entry for the exhibit. Thanks for the clarification, Peter.

We visited the museum in order to let my 90 year old mother-in-law see a Wellington bomber. Her late husband piloted them in WWII for 25 tours over Berlin. Few of his comrades survived and he never spoke of his experiences. It was a very moving trip for us.

  5. Correction to that last statement - 25 tours over military targets in Germany, not Berlin.
