There hasn't been a book draw on Random Distractions for quite a while, so what better way to restore some semblance of normality? Not total normality because yesterday, my PC crashed and the Man cannot come to restore it until Wednesday, so this is being typed on a borrowed laptop. That means, of course, that I have no access to my picture library or my scanner but I will improvise and trust that you will be both patient and imaginative.
The book I am offering is Good Things in England, by Florence White. It is a Persephone Classic, with the distinctive grey cover and beautiful endpapers. For anyone who might be collecting the whole series, this is number 10.
As you will know from recent posts, my husband's mother has come to live with us and our library has been hastily dismantled and dispersed to make room for her. I rang around libraries, second-hand book shops and charity shops offering to donate hundreds of books but no-one wanted them - not even my beautiful Folio edition of the Kelmscott Chaucer, which I offered to the public library in the nearby town. It would appear that books are not very desirable these days!
However, I know that you are all book lovers and that someone will appreciate this Persephone book of traditional recipes. Whether you are a regular visitor or a passerby, if you would like a chance to own it then leave a comment, just 'hello' or 'me please' will do. I can post it to anywhere in the world. I will make the draw on Thursday 12th February. there will be more books to follow, so watch this space.
How greedy I am, being first to sign up in your giveaway. I have never heard of this book - but a book is a book and I'm sure that a book from your library is a good book.

I am delighted that have left the first comment, Margaretha. I am keeping as many special books for myself as I can but I would rather give the others to people who would like them than keep them in boxes.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the draw.
Maureen
Yes please - I need to have a clear out too, but can always make room for something of interest, which this sounds like!
ReplyDeleteWhen I moved recently, I passed on a lot of my books to local schools. Do WVS still do hospital libraries? – but do keep some back for your blogger friends!
ReplyDeleteCount me in on this one. Thanks
Ooh, yes please, M - please pop my name in the draw too.
ReplyDeleteWow count me in the giveaway! Another rainy day here in California!

I would love to be included in your draw please. I'm not sure if I would know where to begin if I had to give away some books...but by offering them here I feel sure they will go to good homes! I am slowly collecting Persephone books so this would be a welcome addition.
ReplyDeleteWho can resist the lure of a Persephone book? especially when it comes up on their Persephone Google Alerts!
ReplyDeleteA prized Persephone! I would be honoured to give her a home! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteCate
Lizzie, rinny, Juliet, cpullum, kentishmaid, paperback reader and cate, I am pleased to add your names to the draw. Don't forget to come back on Thursday to see the result.
ReplyDeleteThis book has been on my want list for a long time!
ReplyDeleteI cannot figure blogger out, though!
sherry
Sherry, I'm sorry you are having trouble with Blogger. If you haven't already registered a user name, I think it is quite easy to do without having to have a blog..
ReplyDeleteGood luck in the draw. Do come back on Thursday to see if you have won.
please put me in the draw
ReplyDeleteThank You

ReplyDeletetsslug and louise, welcome. Your names are in the draw.
ReplyDeleteCrinny - sorry for the typo!
no problem m. I've been called worse - though I did have a bad half-moment when I thought you had left me out and I would not be included in the draw!
ReplyDeleteI *almost* :<) feel guilty to leave a comment after the dandelion incident (now that would make a good mystery title) but I shall put aside all uneasy feelings and say, wow! I'd love to be entered.
