If all the good people were clever,
And all clever people were good,
The world would be nicer than ever
We thought that it possibly could.
But somehow, 'tis seldom or never
The two hit it off as they should;
The good are so harsh to the clever,
The clever so rude to the good!
(Elizabeth Wordsworth)
How did you get to be so wise? There must be something to this defragmentation thing.
ReplyDeleteIs is then, impossible to be both good and clever?
ReplyDeleteerp:
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if we could all be a bit of both, wouldn't it?
Duck:
I don't know about wisdom, I'm just filled with sadness at the moment. If it would help, I'd have you all come and stay for a few days of defragmentation (and chocolate cake) and get things back to peace and harmony and proper arguments!
Ogni cosa ha il suo tempo.
ReplyDeleteI'm an annoyingly optimistic person, Peter, so I'm sure you are right.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about this little rhyme.
ReplyDeleteBy definition, a person who's harsh or rude to others isn't good or clever. I don't know what the current unpleasantness is about, and it's none of my business, but why not just agree to disagree on hot button topics and continue the collegial jousting on other issues.
erp:
ReplyDeleteI'm sure everything will be sorted by a holiday period. In the meantime I shall continue to look for diversions of the random and distracting variety.
Is is then, impossible to be both good and clever?
ReplyDeleteMaybe, but it is certainly possible to be dumb and bad.
Never having encountered a happy or contented bad person, I think bad and dumb must go together.
