My Aga didn't melt the ice caps!

Channel 4's 'The Great Global Warming Swindle' debunked a lot of the headline stories we've had from the media, governments and the righteous left over the past few years. Thankfully, Brit got there before me in writing a summary of the points made in the programme. To see a very different view look at this morning's Daily Telegraph.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if all the scientists and interested parties had an open and honest debate now? Instead, we non-scientists have to judge one convincing argument against another. I was taught that science raises questions and the answers it produces are only valid until the next set of answers emerge; last night's programme affirmed that view for me. I'm always more comfortable with questions and possibilities than with answers and certainties.

Where do we go from here?

  • Should Al Gore return his Oscar?

  • Should Mrs Thatcher's statue be decorated with red herrings?

  • Will we need to find a new excuse for preventing real development in Third World countries?

  • Should we adopt a more cavalier approach to the use of the world's resources and the pollution of the environment?

I think I'll keep on recycling my paper, glass and plastic; it may not affect the climate but it makes sense to reduce landfill. I won't buy a gas-guzzling car because I can't afford the gas and huge cars are silly on our narrow lanes (all that reversing I'm so bad at!). I'll get rid of all those sandbags I was conned into buying for when the sea level rises. Oh, and I'll stop apologising for my Aga.

Ha! That's a god one. But I'm afraid taking this one away still leaves many other existing reasons, but I'm sure they will replace it anyway. Just to be safe.

  2. The Aga is the king of all cookers.More than that, it is a 'way of life.' It is basically bricks and cast iron, it cooks, heats the water and the house. If you look at the picture Brit did I am standing in front of my beautiful red Aga.
A few years ago it moved from country kitchen essential (my motivation, I assure you) to yuppie status symbol but a couple of months ago the global warming alarmists made it #3 target after air travel and large cars.

  3. Was it Brit's idea to have you holding a knife by the wrong end while you're reading a book?

  5. Sorry, I thought you were making a comment about your mum's absent-mindedness.

Thanks for posting a pic, Monix. I learn so much from my fellow bloggers. Did you know that Britney Spears is a golf pro now?

I'm sorry to hear you've needed to go back to sit in the doctor's waiting room. Thanks for the update on Britney.
